Athens and Corinth

Athens and Corinth Private Full Day Tour is a great chance to get to know the two most famous and wealthier city-states of Greek Antiquity. Visit Athens, the birth of the Democracy and the cradle of the western civilization, the Acropolis, the symbol of the Golden Age of Athens and Ancient Corinth, the luxurious but also notorious Ancient and Roman city where Apostle Paul preached!

Itinerary

Athens

The Athens city tour includes a visit to the Acropolis hill. There you will admire the imposing architecture and the perfection of the construction of the Parthenon, the Erechtheion, the Propylaea, the temple of wingless Victory, Mars Hill, the Theatre of Dionysus as well as the Odeon of Herodes Atticus.
You will also be visiting the temple of Zeus, one of the largest and most impressive temples of the Greek antiquity once it was completed. Afterwards we will be stopping in front of the Panathenaic or Kallimarmaron Stadium, an open stadium made entirely by white marble, which hosted the first modern Olympic Games.
The tour will continue with a drive up to Lycabettus hill in order to enjoy the astonishing view from the highest point of Athens. Driving down from Lycabettus hill we will be passing by Panepistimiou Avenue so to take some beautiful pictures of the three most elegant and imposing buildings of the 19TH century, known as the Athenian trilogy (Academy, University, National Library).
We will also be driving by the Monastiraki district and via Stadiou Avenue we will drive back to the city centre. There, we will be stopping in front of the Parliament House at Syntagma Square, the central square of Athens where you can watch the change of the presidential guards, guarding the tomb of the Unknown Soldier.

Corinth

Once we leave Athens and after an hour of driving we will be stopping at the Corinth Canal, a great piece of work completed in 1886, that connects the Aegean with the Ionian Sea and technically transforms the Peloponnese peninsula into an island.
Originally, there was an isthmus, a narrow strip of land connecting the Peloponnese with Mainland Greece, that they are now connected with a bridge.
A few minutes later we will be arriving at the site of Ancient Corinth.
Ancient Corinth due to its strategic location next to the Isthmus, exceeded Athens in terms of wealth.
Ancient Corinth had an important role at the Persian and the Peloponnesian Wars and was an important city-state from the classical times to the Roman Times, as a capital of the Roman province of Achaia, and until the Byzantine period.
In the site you can see the temple of Apollo (7th Century BCE), the ruins of the Roman city (44 BCE), the Lehaion road and the place where Apostole Paul preached to the Corinthians. We will also drive up to Acrocorinth, a fortress that it was continuously fortified from the Neolithic times until the end of the Ottoman occupation (1822).
There, you will see the Frankish tower, the Pirene Spring and also get the chance to enjoy the amazing view from the top of the castle.
After the tour is complete we will be taking the same way back to Athens.
